V8 Rumble - Old Dawgs, New Tracks (Vampirette Records)
The title says it all; a bunch of old guys playing some rockabilly. You wouldn't think that when you give it a spin though. This trio from Norwich sound as vibrant and fresh as anything else out there today, partly due to the excellent and tight production job. It's all there on this album; mean vocals, dirty guitar, and an impenetrable rhythm section of stand-up drums and slap-bass. They also include four covers, but V8 Rumble don't choose the same predictable songs that other rockabilly bands are guilty of. A prime example of this is Britney's 'Baby One More Time'. This band could do well to take that V8 and head further a field to gig outside of Norwich, I'm sure they'd go down well wherever they played.

Call it neo-rockabilly, call it psychobilly, call it what you like I just love it. If there's a future for rockabilly music it's gotta be bands like that doing stuff which goes back ... I guess their roots could equally be the Sex Pistols as much as Elvis's Sun material. That's a band called 'V8 Rumble' from an album called 'Old Dawgs, New Tracks' .... Three guys and a track called 'Jump to it' and I love that line about 'I don't want to do the twist, rockabilly I can't resist', up for all that! Amazing.

V8 Rumble - Old Dawgs, New Tracks (Vampirette CD 112)
14 tracks of hard hitting rockin' 10 of which are originals.... Wayne guitar and vocals, Steve Bass and backing vocals and Adam Drums and backing vocals. Wayne we have known for many years and always produces good quality neo rockabilly and always with a shock or two and this album is no different.
Reading the sleeve notes I read Baby One More Time and yes its a cover like no other Britney Spears (who's she?) this rocks.... anyhow its very powerful stuff and not for the feint hearted among you this is rockin' at it's wildest and it's excellent, no shouting and hollaring though this is very cleverly constructed big beatin fast boppin' rockin' check the guys out at these gigs...

This is a great Album with a mix of 80s Rockabilly, Psychobilly and some new tracks in a rockabilly style. The slap bass sounds so great, vocals are cool and the drummer is crazy. The album is worth a listen.

Heavily influenced by the early 80s sounds of The Stray Cats and The Polecats, V8 Rumble play original Rockabilly songs along with covers of classic rockin' songs from the 1950s to the present day. They also play songs not usually associated with Rockabilly, but deliver them with a wild Rockabilly beat and thumpin' Slap-Bass sound.

OLD DAWGS NEW TRACKS/ V8 RUMBLE

) en My Best Friend's Girl (new wave band The Cars).
